The Department of Public Works

The DPW picks up garbage, trash, recyclables, yard waste and white goods. Residents should not drop off any refuse, or anything else, at the DPW, as it is closed to public access.

All collectables should be at the curb by 7 a.m. and no earlier than 5 p.m. on the preceding day, excluding “household garbage."

Emergencies Sanitary Sewer back-ups, or fallen trees, please call the DPW during their normal working hours of 7a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Any emergency arising before 7 a.m., or after 3 p.m. please notify the Leonia Police Department at 201-944-0800.

Acceptable Waste

Household Garbage – (“Kitchen” wastes only”), garbage should be placed in the pick up location by 7 a.m. on the day of collection, which is every Tuesday and Friday for the entire Borough.

Bulk Trash – (“Household furnishings such as chairs, sofas, rugs and other misc. items”), trash is picked up curb side on alternate Mondays and Thursdays, bi-weekly. Refer to the Community Calendar or the web-site for pick up schedule.

Mixed Paper – (“Newspaper, cardboard, magazines”), are alternating Wednesdays. Brown bags are acceptable, No Plastic Bags.

Co-Mingled Containers – (“Bottles, cans, plastic containers”), are alternating Wednesdays. Placed at curb in hard receptacles – No Plastic Bags

White Goods – (“Washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners and misc. metal items”), the DPW will schedule a pick up of these items. Call 201-592-5790; leave your name, phone number, and address where the items are to be picked up.

Yard Waste – (“Branches, brush, clippings”), pick ups are on alternating Mondays unless there is a Holiday, refer to the pick-up schedule in the Community Calendar or on the Web-site. This service is available March through November of the calendar year. No Plastic Bags Loose Leaves – Can be raked into piles at the curb from October through December. No Plastic Bags
